In the Young Artists Program, students demonstrate mastery as they continue their intensive training. Young Artists may attain three levels of recognition for significant commitment to their communities and instrument. Students build confidence in their talent and abilities, and take on additional opportunities to share music with others.
Young Artists Certificate
Designed for advancing students, the Young Artists Certificate program recognizes instrumental mastery and the commitment of a student. There are three levels of the Young Artists Certificate: Scholar, Ambassador, and Mentor. Scholars show consistent effort, musical growth, and personal commitment to their program of study. Ambassadors build upon the requirements of Scholars, while improving the lives of others as they support and lead activities in the community. Mentors model their musicianship, musical knowledge, and refined character to help inspire younger students and others in the community.
Good Citizen Award
The Good Citizen Award recognizes the efforts of CYM’s student musicians who demonstrate consistent growth in musical skill and technique, and who also contribute good will to CYM and the extended community. Students who are eligible for the Good Citizen Award are fully enrolled CYM students in good standing and in grades 4-12.
Individual Lesson, 30, 45, or 60 minutes – Piano, Voice, Guitar, Violin, Viola, and Cello (4 to 18)
Individual lessons are an integral part of the Suzuki Studies, Foundations, Explorers, and Young Artists Programs. Individual lessons are one-on-one instruction on piano, voice, guitar, violin, viola, and cello. CYM’s experienced faculty members model technical and musical excellence, and are experienced teachers and professional performers. Faculty meet regularly with one another, sharing ways to inspire, motivate, and ensure the progress of your child.
Cello Crew (13 to 18)
Come join a crew of high-school age cellists in an all-cello ensemble which performs varied selections in styles ranging from popular to classical! Weekly hour long rehearsals also include fundamentals of technique, ear training, and sight reading practice. The Cello Crew gives several outreach performances each year.
Chamber and Ensembles Groups (Teacher Recommendation/Student Interest)
Chamber and Ensemble Groups introduce individual parts to students in a group setting. Playing chamber music requires special skills, both musical and social, that differ from the skills required for playing solo or symphonic works. These groups perform for various CYM events and recitals such as the Saturday Light Brigade.
Off the Record (13 to 18)
“Off the Record” is a low-pressure environment for teens to enjoy in snacks, meet new friends, and share their favorite music, guided by one of our expert CYM faculty. Teens spend a lot of time hard at work with an immense amount of pressure on their shoulders, whether its practicing their music, studying for exams, participating in extracurricular activities, volunteering – Sometimes we all need a break! Off the Record re-ignites the sense of fun and curiosity that led to the first time of picking up that instrument.
