As students continue their pedagogy through CYM’s curriculum, they may want to add new lessons or classes. In the Explorers Program, students establish fundamentals to listen to and play in voicing combinations that may be unfamiliar to them: the chamber ensemble, the string orchestra, and the contemporary ensemble. The Explorers Program offers a fresh opportunity to current students and it is also an entry point for students new to the school, who already play an instrument.
Prelude (4 to 12)
Prelude is a free demo class where your child can explore a program that you are interested in, in order to make a better decision about which class to join. Come listen, touch, and talk about the different instruments offered at CYM – then take part in a group music class. Prelude is available for children ages 4 to 12. No prior experience is needed.
Musikgarten’s Music Makers at the Keyboard (7 to 9)
Music Makers at the Keyboard is designed to capitalize on the dynamic of a group environment to instill music skills that are applied to the piano. A three year method, Music Makers at the Keyboard focuses on singing, movement, ensemble, writing, notation games, and more, in a fun group setting. Concepts are applied to the piano from day one, resulting in fluid sight reading, creative improvisation, composition, ensemble playing, and performance.
Individual Lesson, 30, 45, or 60 minutes – Piano, Voice, Guitar, Violin, Viola, and Cello (4 to 18)
Individual lessons are an integral part of the Suzuki Studies, Foundations, Explorers, and Young Artists Programs. Individual lessons are one-on-one instruction on piano, voice, guitar, violin, viola, or cello. CYM’s faculty members model technical and musical excellence, are experienced teachers and professional performers, and they are great people to know! Faculty meet regularly with one another, sharing ways to inspire, motivate, and ensure the progress of your child.
Chamber and Ensembles Groups (Teacher Recommendation/Student Interest)
Chamber and Ensemble Groups introduce individual parts to players in a positive, constructive setting. Playing chamber music requires special skills, both musical and social, that differ from the skills required for playing solo or symphonic works. These groups present their work at various school events, such as the Saturday Light Brigade and the Ensemble Recital, at other community performances arranged by the CYM team.
Good Citizen Award
The Good Citizen Award recognizes the efforts of student musicians who demonstrate consistent growth in musical skill and technique, and who also contribute good will to CYM and extended community. Students who are eligible for the Good Citizen Award are fully enrolled CYM students in good standing and in grades 4-12.
