Mr. Erich Talks About Performance

Listen in as Mr. Erich talks about the performance training which helped him broaden his musical reach and a concert that added perspective:

Thank you for joining us today Mr. Erich! Please describe a performance that made an impression on you.

Thanks so much for having me here! I’ll highlight my first experience performing as a classical musician. In college once a week, all of the members of the guitar studio got to together and took turns volunteering to play for each other. When I was a freshman, seeing and hearing the older, more experienced students perform, really motivated me to improve!

Tell us what you think creates a memorable performance?

The most special part about a performance is sharing the music with others. All eyes are on you and the audience enjoys the music. It’s an exciting feeling to show off music you like and have a crowd respond well to it.

What is something unusual that happened during a performance you attended as audience member, and what did you learn from it?

I once saw a Lutenist play who is considered one of the best in the world. In the middle of a long dance movement from a Bach suite he stopped mid-piece and said “There are just so many notes!” Then he shook his hand out (to relax it) and resumed the music from where he paused. Granted, this performer was aged past his prime years, but I learned that even the pros are human and make mistakes.

I’m excited for this Saturday’s Serenade because it’s an excellent chance to develop our community of young musicians!

Thanks to Mr. Erich for sharing! Register for the upcoming Serenade to play a polished piece for your friends, family, and peers.
