Our Musikgarten toddlers recently learned a song that is actually helping them during COVID-19: Hands A-Washing is a fun and silly song that has the children singing and pretending to wash their hands. Hopefully this is translating to actual washing of hands!
The CDC recommends that we scrub our hands for a full 20 seconds, and you may have heard that singing Happy Birthday twice is a good way to gauge the passing of time. But what if you are getting tired of singing Happy Birthday? Here are some other options that also clock in at 20 seconds!
Have fun with these familiar songs:
- Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star – one time through
- Theme from Jeopardy – 30 seconds long, for extra clean hands
- Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush -2 times, with the words “This is the way we wash our hands…” the second time!
- My Country, ‘Tis of Thee
If you want to try your hand at creating a hand washing song, try this fun song and poster generator, called Wash Your Lyrics!
Let us know about your favorites! Here are some lyrics to refresh your memory:
Twinkle, twinkle, little star, how I wonder what you are! Up above the world so high, like a diamond in the sky. Twinkle, twinkle, little star, how I wonder what you are!
Here we go round the mulberry bush, the mulberry bush, the mulberry bush. Here we go round the mulberry bush, so early in the morning! This is the way we wash our hands, wash our hands, wash our hands! This is the way we wash our hands, so early in the morning!
My country, ’tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing! Land where my fathers died, land of the pilgrims’ pride, from every mountainside, let freedom ring!
