Simmi Tripathi

Ms. Simmi is deeply invested in her piano students’ musical growth and is driven to ensure each of her students acquires the skills necessary to become well-rounded, independent young musicians. She feels strongly in the role that parents play in their child’s musical education – growing and evolving with an instrument can happen best when the child receives support from all around them! In addition to working on the musical foundations in lessons (music theory, technique, literacy), Ms. Simmi finds it important for her students to find and develop their musical interests and work on pieces that inspire them! As an active member in the local/state chapters of MTNA (Music Teachers’ National Association), Ms. Simmi looks forward every year to having her hardworking students participate in local and statewide recitals, showcases and festivals. For those students who have acquired a substantial pianistic skill-set, she provides them with chamber music opportunities with string students from within the CYM community!
Ms. Simmi was inspired to begin private piano lessons at the age of 7 after watching her older sister at the piano for years. Through the guidance of her piano teacher in Houston, TX (Alicia Shirley), Ms. Simmi regularly entered piano competitions, took annual statewide theory exams, and attended piano camps every summer between 4th-11th grade. She attended the local performing arts high school which allowed her to focus more in depth into her piano studies and solidified the desire she had to major in piano performance and turn this passion into a career. She went on to attend the University of Houston where she received her Bachelor of Music in piano performance (studying with Betty Ruth Tomfohrde), then attended the Cleveland Institute of Music for her Master of Music degree in piano performance (studying with Antonio Pompa-Baldi and Emanuela Friscioni), and finally the University of California at Santa Barbara for two years of doctoral studies (studying with Dr. Charles Asche).
Ms. Simmi has 17 years of piano teaching experience and has been with the Center for Young Musicians since 2012. She is excited to see how her students continue to grow through the years and feels privileged to work with such wonderful and supportive families!
