The evening of December 21st, the First Unitarian Church of Shadyside was bustling with activity- several meetings and a dance recital were going on upstairs, and downstairs, was CYM’s 2018 Holiday Concert. With 34 student performers, this concert was well over double the size of last year’s Holiday Concert. The space was packed with proud parents, dedicated students, and young children, who sat up front admiring and learning from the performers. The hour long performance lead by guitar teacher Mr. Erich included piano, violin, cello, and guitar students. We are so proud of everyone for closing out the 2018 year with smiling faces, beautiful music, and an atmosphere of positive energy.
Our cello and violin students entertained concert-goers of the Nutcracker at the beautiful Heinz Hall. They gave pre-concert and intermission performances, and got to watch the Nutcracker. It has been so fun to see our young musicians perform all through Pittsburgh this holiday season; and we are so proud of all who have participated.
On Saturday, December 15th, CYM students entertained ice skaters! Guitar and piano students performed festive music for the families at PPG Wintergarden, creating an atmosphere of holiday cheer. It’s amazing how professionally our young musicians conduct themselves in public settings; we are so proud of them!
We can be assured the future of CYM is bright when we hear performances like this! Our youngest violinists performed at our annual Ensemble Recital with confidence, led by teachers Ms Rochelle and Mr Chris, with Ms Amy at the piano!
Our faculty enjoy being together and working to create memorable experiences for our students and their families!
A big thank you to CYM faculty for making this new event a great success!
Mr Erich, Mr Chris and Mr Mark “dazzled” with their beautiful holiday music, while Ms Amy introduced hundreds of children and their families to instruments of all kinds! The event concluded with everyone gathered outside for a brilliant fireworks display!
Watch for this event next year- and be sure to join in the fun!
Our annual Fall Ensemble Recital was a grand success! The students performed with polish and poise! Our faculty took part by performing two beautiful arrangements by Mr Chris. Ms Simmi spoke on the importance of piano ensembles, and Ms Amy reminded us of the dramatic effect of early childhood music study. Awards were presented for the practice challenge!
It was great for so many of us to be together in one big celebration of music, accomplishments, food, and fun!
We heard so many wonderful piano duets!
Ms Rochelle with her Award-winning students!
The piano trio was truly a highlight of the program!
