Ravi Coltrane CYM Event Update!

Ravi Coltrane event update! CYM’s event, in partnership with Kente Arts Alliance, has been updated: 3:00-5:00 pm  – Open sound check with Ravi at the New Hazlett theater A sound check is a great opportunity to watch professional musicians in action. Not only are they setting the technical cues and levels for the concert, but they are working together as a team as they prepare. This time often includes full run-throughs of the music for the concert! What a great way to get a glimpse behind the scenes, and hear great music for free! 5:00 pm  – Q & A with Ravi   8:00 Concert (tickets required) Dr. Harry Clark’s Pittsburgh jazz scene presentation will be re-scheduled for a future event. Check it Out in North Park Tonight: Sixth Annual Brazilian Day!

October 4, 2019

Tonight from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Rose Barn in North Park, members of Pittsburgh’s Brazilian community will host a celebration of their country’s music, food and culture. The Sixth Annual Brazilian Day event will feature traditional foods prepared by Casa Brasil and other vendors, and music by artists including Kenia, Lilly Abreu, and Brazilian drum ensemble, Timbeleza. This is an event for the whole family, and we have perfect weather for the concerts, games, and activities that are sure to provide a good time for all! More information and tickets: click here! Guitar Concert Featuring CYM Faculty and Students in Shadyside

So many choices for this coming weekend! If you are in the Oakland/Shadyside area of Pittsburgh Saturday evening, be sure to check out a FREE concert at Church of the Ascension, featuring our own Mr. Erich! Come to this beautiful venue to hear works of Bach, Coste, Albeniz, as well as some of Mr. Reibe’s own compositions! Also enjoy guitar solos and duets by two of Mr. Erich’s students. The evening will be capped off with a composition for flute and guitar by Ravi Shankar. For this, Mr. Erich will be joined by his special guest, Leah Stevens! You don’t want to miss this evening of gorgeous music in a magnificent space! See you at 6:00 p.m. for this free concert!

It’s time to enroll in one of our new classes! You’ve probably read about our Crossover series that began this summer. If not, follow this link to read up on the ways visual art and music intersect! This is a group for teens in Sewickley. If your student has interest in the visual arts, video game music, anime music, etc. they should definitely check out these sessions! Musikgarten is here!  So glad to be offering this curriculum with expanded options this year! Music Makers at the Keyboard is brand new to CYM, but has been taught by Ms. Amy for over 10 years! This year, make this the path for your 6-9 year old to learn piano, because data over the last 15 years is showing 98% retention rate in private piano for graduates of MMK!  Read here for more information! New “Prelude” Classes Available!

Do you happen to live around the Sewickley area? Good news! CYM is now offering free classes called Prelude. Prelude sessions are fun, interactive demo classes that allow budding musicians to explore potential programs and instruments. Come listen, touch, and learn about the different instruments offered at CYM and then take part in a group music class which will have your child singing, dancing, and creating music! Prelude is available for children ages 4 to 12, and no prior experience is needed. To register for Prelude clink the link below to go to CYM’s Timetap page. From there, select the Sewickley location. After that, select the Prelude option and fill in the necessary information. Free Piano Classes!

Who doesn’t like free?! The Center for Young Musicians is offering FREE Musikgarten Group Piano sessions for any child between the ages of 6 to 9 years old. Classes will be held August 4th and 5th from 3:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. at CYM Sewickley. Sign up for both days; parents join in for last 15 minutes of class each day. NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE NEEDED! These classes are presented as a part of a National Teacher Training for Musikgarten. Teachers in attendance will observe these classes taught by Amy Rucker. Night Mart this Week in Sewickley!

You better watch out You better not cry You better not pout I’m telling you why It’s Christmas in July week in the city of Sewickley and we have a special event coming up! CYM Sewickley will be open for all to see Friday, July 26th for Night Mart! Night Mart, which runs from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., is a celebration of local shops and businesses. Enjoy a pop-up artisan market featuring locally handcrafted goods, a variety of food trucks, and even live music! Be sure to stop by CYM Sewickley to try out our colorful front window piano! Mr. Ryan will also be there letting people try out some instruments as well! So stop by Beaver Street tomorrow night and be sure to check it out!

CYM Students Aim for Ambassador Certificate

Several CYM students are embarking on a journey to complete the Center for Young Musicians Ambassador Certificate! Designed for advancing students, the program requires a performance repertoire of at least three pieces. A concert is presented with each student performing three or four selections of music. In addition, the performers will present a brief lecture on each composer and composition. This is sure to be an exciting and informative event. Please mark your calendars for this free concert, held at 7:00 PM, July 19th, at our Sewickley location. Stay tuned for more information about our performers!

Trio Prepares for Concert!

Over the weekend, CYM students, Clara Yuo (piano), Alexa Bronkaj (violin) and Yazan Alissa (cello), rehearsed their piano trio music for their upcoming concert at St. James Church in Sewickley on Tuesday, May 14 at 7pm. Sharing the program with them will be another piano trio, made up of Abby Bojalad (piano), Alena Gurevich (violin) and Elliott Drake (cello).
