Round Out Your Year with this Leap Day Event!

Yes we are in a leap year! Leap Day, February 29, is an extra day that comes around every four years to allow for the fact that the earth does not orbit the sun perfectly in 365 days. For fun facts, customs, and traditions tied to Leap Day, read here. Meanwhile, we at CYM have a plan for your February 29: what better way to spend your extra day than with beautiful music!? Come hear Ms. Leah and Ms. Simmi perform Prokofiev’s Five Melodies for Violin and Piano and Meditation for Thais by Massenet this Leap Day!  Piano and violin students will also perform; reception to follow. Let’s celebrate together in Sewickley, on February 29, 3:00-5:00 pm.              See you there!

You Are Invited! Community Concert Set for February 15th

Mark your calendars for this upcoming concert. Ms. Grace, Ms. Rochelle and Mr. Ryan will be regaling us with beautiful music on February 15, 2020 at our Sewickley location. The concert will begin at 5:00 pm, and will feature piano, violin and cello music performed by students and teachers. Community Concerts provide performance opportunities for students, who in turn have the honor of hearing their teachers perform. Students in the audience may very well find themselves thinking “That will be me someday. I’ll be playing that!” or simply “Goals”. The faculty trio will share music of Haydn, and will dazzle you with some Tango pieces that might have you dancing in the aisles! This is sure to be an entertaining time Saturday Feb 15th at 5pm in Sewickley. All our best to the students and teachers!

Fall Community Piano Concert

October 4, 2019

  Enjoy an afternoon of music in Sewickley this month! On Saturday, October 19th, 4:00 P.M. Ms. Grace and CYM piano students will be performing on our beautiful, historic Steinway concert grand in the concert room at our Sewickley location. Enjoy Preludes by Rachmaninoff, and student duets performed by several students of Ms. Grace and Ms. Simmi. A bonus: hear a ragtime arrangement of music themes from the movie “Up”! (If you are not familiar with the movie, you should watch it, and enjoy the remarkably poignant music, composed by Michael Giacchino.) This concert will last approximately one hour and will be followed by a reception. See you then!

CYM Summer Choir Presentation

July 31, 2019

On Tuesday night, our CYM Summer Choir gave a performance, demonstrating a sampling of what was learned over the summer. Having only met eight times, the children were eager to present their hard work to the parents, who were delighted and amazed at all that had been accomplished. The program began with a demonstration of vocal exercises and rounds, followed by a selection of songs. Students had chosen different “poses” for each piece, and one song was even accompanied by percussion instruments! Kristin Butler, parent of Abigail said: “It was a great show! We loved hearing their voices. Thank you for your time with them, sharing your gifts, and especially your patience!” During the reception, Mrs. Rucker presented a piano recital of of Irish and American folk songs arranged for piano solo! Community Concert Thrills Crowd!

Ms. Grace and Ms. Rochelle organized an incredible concert on Sunday July 21st.  It was an evening filled with spectacular performances from a number of students and even Ms. Grace and Ms. Rochelle, too! Agnes Picarsic began the evening with two folk songs, Song of the Wind and O Come Little Children. After this, Nico Alfaro performed Lightly Row and Go Tell Aunt Rhody, followed by Sophie Godbey’s renditions of Long Long Ago and Allegro. Next, Elijah Haberman also performed Go Tell Aunt Rhody, and the folk song With Steady Hands. After Elijah, Amanda Smith played Canon in D by Pachelbel. Nalani Brayley then serenaded the audience with Hunter’s Chorus and Minuet in G. Lily Haberman was next, performing Gavotte in G Minor and Humoresque. Ms. Simmi’s Community Concert delights attendees!

Ms. Simmi’s Community Concert was a wonderful success this past Saturday! The concert was held at CYM Sewickley at 3:00 p.m.  Guests were enchanted with an afternoon of music, including pieces by Kuhlau, Schumann, Beethoven, and Bach. Ms. Simmi also performed, first playing Beethoven’s F™¯ major Op. 78. Mr. Chris then joined her to play a Romance piece by Amy Beach. Overall, the day the was an incredible success and a splendid afternoon! Below are a few pictures from the day.

Community Concert Brought the Blues!

But the good kind of Blues! Mr. Mark delighted all with his program of blues, jazz, and more! The concert featured students of all ages and instruments, and included those students who participated in the Blues Workshop that day! Guitar faculty Mark Marston’s presentation included Blues for Classic Guitar by Charlie Byrd. Thank you to all who participated!
