Young Artists’ Ambassadors Astound Audience!

The Young Artists Ambassadors Recital was an astounding success! All who attended were treated to a fantastic night of music. Ms. Hafsah Shahzad started the evening’s activities with stunning renditions of Rhapsody in G minor by Johannes Brahms, Nuages Gris, S. 199 by Franz Liszt, and Prelude in E minor, Op. 28 No. 4 by Frédéric Chopin. Mr. Manus McGinnis continued the night’s festivities with excellent performances of  Linus and Lucy by Vincent Guaraldi, Clarinet Blues by Martha Mier, Vivace from Sonatina in C Major, Op. 36 No. 1 by Muzio Clementi, and “Pizza Time” by Luigi Denza. Lastly, Ms. Réka Götz finished the evening with a stellar finale! She performed two pieces from George Gershwin’s Three Preludes (II. Andante con moto and III. Agitato), and Prelude in B minor, Op. 32 No. 10 by Sergei Rachmaninoff.

Community Concert Thrills Crowd!

Ms. Grace and Ms. Rochelle organized an incredible concert on Sunday July 21st.  It was an evening filled with spectacular performances from a number of students and even Ms. Grace and Ms. Rochelle, too! Agnes Picarsic began the evening with two folk songs, Song of the Wind and O Come Little Children. After this, Nico Alfaro performed Lightly Row and Go Tell Aunt Rhody, followed by Sophie Godbey’s renditions of Long Long Ago and Allegro. Next, Elijah Haberman also performed Go Tell Aunt Rhody, and the folk song With Steady Hands. After Elijah, Amanda Smith played Canon in D by Pachelbel. Nalani Brayley then serenaded the audience with Hunter’s Chorus and Minuet in G. Lily Haberman was next, performing Gavotte in G Minor and Humoresque. “Cello Crew” Performing Class Beginning this Fall!

A new performing group for cellists, led by Mr. Ryan, is forming now and will begin this fall. This will be a Monday evening class held in our Sewickley location. Cellists ages 13 to 18 are encouraged to join! This group class will provide opportunities to develop musicianship skills as well as performing experience. Not to mention that music is more fun when you get to collaborate with friends! Make time to join in with something new at CYM, and get ready for some amazing music-making this year! Ms. Simmi’s Community Concert delights attendees!

Ms. Simmi’s Community Concert was a wonderful success this past Saturday! The concert was held at CYM Sewickley at 3:00 p.m.  Guests were enchanted with an afternoon of music, including pieces by Kuhlau, Schumann, Beethoven, and Bach. Ms. Simmi also performed, first playing Beethoven’s F™¯ major Op. 78. Mr. Chris then joined her to play a Romance piece by Amy Beach. Overall, the day the was an incredible success and a splendid afternoon! Below are a few pictures from the day.

Calling all teens! Join CYM Crossover!

The Center for Young Musicians’ teen hang-out, “Off the Record,” and Studio419 join forces to create Crossover: a space for teens where they can relax, enjoy snacks, learn from each other, and express themselves freely. In this six-session music and art crossover summer series, teens will explore their own creativity through a variety of fun and engaging themes. Never played an instrument? No problem. Never picked up a paintbrush? Don’t sweat it! This all-levels series is a low-pressure opportunity for teens to connect with music and art in a new way.  We are welcoming non-CYM students to these sessions as well, so invite siblings and friends! Jazz Combo Workshop in Full Swing — Jump on in!

Join CYM for a Jazz Combo Workshop!   This summer camp is open to all guitar and piano teens. Students will have fun learning about performing in a jazz combo! They will get a chance to try their hand at drums or bass guitar, as well as jam on their own instrument! Collaborate, Create, Crossover – Calling ALL Teens!

It’s time for the big announcement…  The Center for Young Musicians is partnering with Sweetwater Center for the Arts to create a brand new space for teenagers interested in the arts.  After the grand opening of Sweetwater’s specialty teen gallery Studio419,  just a couple of doors down from CYM in Sewickley, we were excited by the possibility of collaboration.
