The Solo Studies program features one-on-one instruction in on piano, violin, viola, cello, guitar or voice with an experienced faculty member who can provide instruction and motivation for your child. For a number of reasons, students may enter the school at a time period when their profiles do not match an on-going group class, or they may have special needs which individual attention can best address, or they may be emphasizing some other aspect of their extra-curricular activities and this works best for their schedule.
Students meet weekly with their instructor and can perform regularly at school and outreach concerts and join with friends through our workshops and activities program.
This program meets weekly for eleven months of the year with breaks at holidays, and comprises:

The purpose of a private lesson is to teach the technical skills necessary to discover a students’ unique “voice” through instrumental or vocal expression. Combining the technical skills needed to play an instrument or sing while developing a student’s musicality through performance is a challenging and exciting journey. Focused time spent with CYM instructors is necessary to achieving this goal. Students use a portion of the lesson to study music theory to prepare a solid foundation for a life-long love of music.
When do we register for this program?
How do we register for this program?
It is fantastic that you are eager and enthusiastic about your child’s musical studies! It is especially great to see young children showing a natural inclination toward music and the support of their caregivers in nurturing that spark. Families at CYM need guidance in choosing the right path, pace, and overall fit for their child’s musical journey. Here are a few FAQ’s for those interested in their child’s early beginning...
What is my commitment?
Is this program the right one for my child?
Can we make adjustments after we join?
Yes! Students in each level of the Solo Studies program can always evaluate other educational options. Upon re-enrollment each school year, parents and teachers work together to choose a student’s path forward. A group class in conjunction with a private lesson is strongly recommended for your child’s balanced educational experience here at CYM. This balance fosters a sense of community, collaborative relationships with other musicians, and preparation for performing in groups or for an audience of their peers. During the course of the school year, a student may desire to add a group class or change the duration of their private lesson.
